Statement
What We Make of It begins with the idea that making is an act of accumulation. A colour is chosen, a mark is made, something is kept, changed, covered or removed. Much of life unfolds in the same way, through countless small choices, reactions and decisions that accumulate over time and shape what becomes possible next.
Watercolour gathers in translucent layers across linen, with marks obscured and revisited and fragments of handwritten text appearing and disappearing within the surface. Landscape provides a loose structure rather than a record of a particular place. These works reflect on how memory, belief, experience and even seemingly minor choices continue to influence what we make from what has already accumulated, while leaving space for each viewer to bring their own associations and meaning to the paintings.
