
Born in Australia in 1968, Amanda van Gils lived in Melbourne until 2010 when she relocated to Hervey Bay in Queensland.
Amanda van Gils obtained a Graduate Diploma in Visual Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts, 2000 and a Bachelor of Art in Fine Arts, Monash University Melbourne, 1989.
Amanda's work has been short-listed for a number of significant national art prizes which include: Whyalla Art Prize, Fleurieu Art Prize, John Leslie Art Prize, Tattersall's Club Landscape Art Prize and the Mosman Art Prize. She has also been a finalist in overseas Art Prizes, having been twice shortlisted for the Sommerwende International Arts Festival (Berlin) and three times for the ArtKudos Art Prize (USA). In 2006 van Gils won the Art Interviews 4th International Online Artist Competition, Berlin, and was awarded the Prize of Excellence - Real-Time Global Art Annual, Artoteque, London that same year.
Amanda is the veteran of numerous solo shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland, Berlin and New York, she has exhibited extensively in group shows throughout Australia and overseas and is currently curating two large group exhibitions in Victoria and Queensland. Amanda is represented by Anthea Polson Art in Queensland and United Galleries in Perth.
